Comprehension Checking As You Go: In-Line Questions for Flipped Courses in Canvas

As part of the design of online modules for two flipped MBA courses in Winter 2016, Stanford GSB embedded Qualtrics onto Canvas pages to create comprehension check questions between (primarily video) learning content. Data about student responses to these in-page questions flowed to an instructor dashboard that facilitated just-in-time teaching. Due to a number of factors that made Qualtrics an imperfect solution (student learning experience, instructor experience, and development and support effort), other tools were explored for the next course run, and the next implementation will be done by inserting links to Canvas’s native quizzing tool into Canvas pages instead.
